Match Report

Sunday 8th September marked a historic day for the Bishop Braves under 12 girls as they took the field for their inaugural rugby match against the Northern Amazonians at McCracken Park, Newcastle.

Despite facing a seasoned opponent, the Braves put up a spirited performance that showcased their determination and potential.

The Northern Amazonians scored a number of tries throughout the game, but the Braves were able to respond with three tries of their own.

Martha Boyd demonstrated her guile and determination by scoring two tries for Bishop Auckland.

Amelia-Lilly Denham burst through a well-drilled defensive line to run the length of the pitch and score a try.

Isla Greenwood also contributed a fantastic try, showcasing the team's continuity of play.

Mia Taylor, Tori Tellegen, and Frankie Burn put in an immense defensive effort, tackling everything that moved with bravery and courage.

Scarlett Lithgow was particularly strong and was at the heart of everything the Braves did.

Brodie Hull turned over three phases and stole the ball from the opposition, while Molly Barker was denied a try in the corner by an excellent cover tackle.

Lillian Dunn was also denied a breakaway try but made a positive impact on everything she touched.

While the Braves may have felt some initial nerves, their commitment to the game was evident throughout. They never gave up, gave 100%, and took the game to Northern. As the second half progressed, the Braves became the better team at times, scoring some lovely individual tries and demonstrating effective play around the ruck.

Although there is still plenty to work on, the Braves' performance was filled with positives and raw talent. Amelia-Lilly Denham was awarded the opposition's player of the match, while Isla Greenwood was voted the Braves' player of the match.

The team's progress is impressive considering the limited training sessions and low numbers over the summer.

With more full squad sessions, the Braves have the potential to achieve even greater success.

Well done to the Braves for their outstanding effort and commitment.

The future is bright for this talented young team!
