On this damp Sunday morning the Bishop Auckland U10’s hosted Jarrovians in their latest home fixture. Bishop had a good turnout with Jarrovians slightly fewer so the coaches decided on one game with rolling substitutes. This worked well with the players getting rests between the action with the opportunity to keep warm practicing skills, while also supporting their teammates from the sidelines.
This was a great morning of rugby for the Bishop U10’s. Jarrovians were a good team but every one of the Bishop players really stepped up their intensity and skill level to make this an impressive performance.
Defence wins games and the collective effort from every player, to keep out attacks from Jarrovians was fantastic. Tackles were made by everyone often forcing their opponents back!. This was a brilliant defensive team effort.
Our work at the breakdown was equally impressive. On many occasions Jarrovians went into contact only to lose the ball from one of the Bishop players ripping or stealing the ball. Our players created so many turnovers that lead to great attacking opportunities for the team.
In attack we were alert to gaps and exploited space to score some fantastic individual and team tries. Our powerful and relentless running game kept our opponents on the back foot. Our offloading game in contact was good and the passing game was creative with some really entertaining passages of play.
Our opponents kept plugging away bravely but the collective team effort on both sides of the ball from the Bishop players nullified many attacking positions that turned into scores for the Bishop U10’s.
This was probably the best “whole team performance” of the season so far and the players and their families should be very proud. However, sterner challenges are on the horizon with challenging away trips to Darlington and Durham City over the next couple of weeks. The team work and skill levels the players showed today, while welcoming back teammates who were unavailable who will strengthen our squad, should make for some very exciting rugby from this fantastic group of young rugby players.
Players of the Week.
Harry Stevens. Harry made a welcome return to the team and played a huge part in the team’s success. He made some great tackles and kept his team ticking as he played in the scrum half role. His passing and awareness was superb all morning. Well played Harry.
Elliott Marr. Elliott’s support play and team work was very good. He made some good tackles and ripped the ball creating some turnovers. On one occasion he charged the full length of the pitch to score a memorable try! Well done Elliot.
Harry Wigmore. Having finally thawed out from our game at Houghton a couple of weeks ago, Harry was really up for it today. His enthusiasm was infectious as he, made some great tackles, supported well, and scored a fantastic try when his team was under pressure. Great work Harry.
Henry Burns. Henry played well particularly in attack with some powerful runs into the Jarrovians lines. He capitalised on mistakes from our opponents resulting in several tries for his team. A good defensive effort and some clever turnovers also helped his team. Well played Henry.
Don’t forget indoor training on Wednesday at 6pm!
We are really looking forward to seeing everyone next Sunday for what promises to be another brilliant morning of U10 Rugby.
Thank you for your continued support.
