Conditions were perfect today for the U12’s first home fixture of the season, facing Sunderland. Last seasons fixture was competitive and the boys were hoping to carry through the momentum of their comeback against Westoe two weeks ago.
The match started fairly evenly, with both teams playing some good physical rugby which resulted in a score of 10-10 after 15 min. But in the second third of the match Bishop started to pull away. It was Bishop’s aggressive and efficient rucking that made the difference, recycling the ball quickly and gaining a few turn overs. Tries from the backs and forwards brought the score to 40-10.
Credit to Sunderland who finished strongly and had the run of play in the final third pulling back a few tries to make the final score 45-25.
There was some superb rugby played by both sides and in the true TREDS spirit, well done to all involved. We look forward to the return fixture later this season.
Man of the match this week was Tyler, in a rare occurrence he was selected by all 4 Bishop coaches which shows just how well he played. Loads of powerful runs and an excellent work rate in and around the contact area, two excellent tries, and he was unlucky not to get a hat trick with an effort held up over the line by some excellent defensive work from Sunderland.
