With both teams short of numbers, a 12 a side game was played at Talbot Park in perfect conditions.
In the initial brief, the lads could see it was a wide pitch, and Acklam seemed to have a large set of forwards. They agreed that a fast rucking game would be more suitable to avoid slow mauls which may have played into our opponents hands.
The lads were asked to stamp their game from the first whistle, impose themselves aggressively but controlled around the breakdown, and play an expansive game to keep the Acklam pack moving.
For the entirety of the first half, Acklam never ventured out of their own half due to our dominance around the breakdown. We turned countless balls over, quickly turning defence into attack. There was some amazing strong and direct running from all players, with fantastic support when tackles were made. Acklam just couldn't cope with our go forward.
Tries came from all over the team sheet, and at times their passing game was a joy to watch.
The game was effectively over at half time, so to mix things up we swapped the whole back line with Acklam which made it a more productive contest for both sides.
Acklam are a developing side and credit to them for their application, sportsmanship and attitude to the game.
So many amazing performances across the team, we have a small outfit at present, but I can rely on the majority to put a shift in week in, week out. So proud of this unit.
Man of match went to Leo Helliwell who is still developing and getting to grips with this amazing sport. He was always there in support, made some great forward runs, and very nearly scored his first try.
Thank you to our amazing barmy army of supporters, it really gives us a lift. Cymon SL went quiet in the second half for some reason.....cant think why at present!? Ha! Our parents are very much part of our team.
Have a lovely Christmas everyone, more tests to come in the New Year!
