A foggy morning saw us travel to Acklam, a developmental team we have played well against previously. Before the match both teams and officials came together to show our respect to young Poppy, who's life was tragically taken from her at Kendal Rugby club earlier in the week.
Acklam arrived with 9 players and we happily loaned them 2 of our backs to make it 11 a side, with uncontested scrums and no number 8.
Big big thank you to Leo H and Robbie who joined Acklam in the first half, and Olly SL and Isaac who joined them in the second half. You did so with no fuss and played like they were your team, a real credit to yourselves and our team. Today was a great opportunity to mix up positions in an effort to work the whole team. We set out with drive and focus scoring straight off the whistle. Acklam didn't even get into our half thanks to some good defensive work and great tackling techniques. Half time score of 0-35.
Due to the 6 try rule, we mixed the teams up again in the second half to make it more even with Olly SL and Isaac playing for Acklam. Unfortunately Bishop lost their spark, the discipline failed with keeping positions and Acklam made a few good runs and got through our defence easily, scoring several tries. Acklam had their fight and we struggled with missed tackles and loosing rucks. Towards the end of the second half we found our spark again and made some brilliant team assisted tries.
Overall we need to play the whole match with the same determination and fight that we started with.
Looking forward to training on Wednesday! Watch out lads, you’re going to get beasted!
