BARUFC U13’s v Darlington

Jacqui Teasdale11 Feb - 14:23

A loss in the cup, but a performance to be proud of!

Darlington 35-05 Bishop Auckland

We always knew that today was going to be a really hard contest after playing Darlington earlier in the season. But the lads have been playing really well of late, and confidence has grown. We have proved over the weeks that we are a handful for most teams, and we told the lads today that we weren't bothered about the result, just the performance! True to form, Darlington came at us time and time again, but our lads tackled heroically and played with their hearts on their sleeves. We got on the score sheet once, however, this may have been more but for the bounce of a ball, or a pass not going to hand.

The lads were really committed today in a really hard physical encounter, but they never let their heads drop and kept going back for more!

I asked them at the end of the match, whilst they were blowing out their bums, covered in mud, and with some aches and pains if they'd enjoyed today's match, and all agreed that it had been one of the games of the season despite what the score board displayed. Herculean effort all round!

Player of the match went to the skipper Issac for his tenacity, go forward and ankle tapping try saving tackle, and great effort to get back and save a certain try.
Isaac couldn't nominate himself being captain, and chose Nicky as his player of the match. Nicky is a different beast this season, quietly but extremely effectively going about his business and with Riley, forms a formidable engine room in the second row.

Superb effort lads, very proud of you!
