Under 13’s welcomed Durham City to West Mills on a crisp, sunny morning.
Once again our under 13’s were struggling to field a team due to low squad numbers and injuries.
We are currently struggling to field a front row, however, Durham came to the rescue and kindly loaned us a prop so we could play contested scrums (which kept our hooker Thomas happy).
Making his debut for Bishop was Mckenzie who relished in the physicality brought on by Durham and turned in a stellar performance. Coaches are looking forward to watching him develop and grow as a player.
It was Durham who made a fast start taking a 10 point lead early on, however, bishop made some hard yards playing into the wind in the first half and Ben making a weaving run as he broke the line to touch down in the corner.
Durham City had plenty of fresh legs which once again took its tole on Bishop and a number of strong Durham line breaks resulted in them taking an unassailable lead in the second half.
All our boys really did step up, playing out of position and defending for their lives. We would like to applaud them all for it, they certainly put in the graft!
Our standout performances of the day were made by Riley H, Isaac and Nicky, who all made a number of hard hits and sacrificed their bodies. Without the physicality shown by our three leaders the scoring would’ve been a greater deficit!
Man of match this week could’ve gone to any of the aforementioned players but Riley H just beat Issac and Nicky to it!
Our next match is a return fixture away to Durham in a fortnight, hopefully with some players back in their positions we’ll make it a closer game.
