Our away game at Houghton had previously been the highpoint of our season, with a game of everything that’s good about our sport!

Today’s fixture went ahead after a superb effort by volunteers to get the pitch ship-shape, though it was marred by Johnny’s tumble!

Another good game with exceptional performances across the field by both sides who also fielded new players – for Bishop, Cameron W and William put in sound debuts.

We started with a bang – Cameron N scoring from the off, following a quick pass from Logan. Houghton quickly came back, running in a handful of tries by their skilful no.6, but firm defensive work brought Bishop back into it, Jake scored, but Houghton shaded it and led at half time. Strong in the ruck and scrum, and much sharp passing down the lines were evident. We grew as the game progressed, with Joshua, Mackenzie, and Daniel in the thick of it! Samuel, Archie and Kai tackling, James, Charlie and Olly running and determined work by George G, who didn’t quite make the line! We were rewarded. Good work by Lucca led to Finn scoring and then a fabulous try involving at least 10 players passing along the lines and supported through the ruck, led to a darting, and scoring run, by Liam. Fittingly, the game ended all square, Finn running in the final try!

Our training is paying off – we’ve a team growing in confidence and getting stronger.
