BARUFC U13’s v Richmond and Wensleydale

Jacqui Teasdale3 Dec - 21:45

Perfect start!

Richmond & Wensleydale 5 -25 Bishop Auckland

It was only a fortnight ago when the lads didn't turn up till half time playing against Guisborough. So today, we asked them to put that right, to visualise their first tackle, first forward run, and first set piece. We wanted a strong start, to stamp our mark on the game and take it by the scruff of the neck. The lads didn't disappoint, they were on the front foot from the off and didn't stop till the half time whistle was blown.

We were so dominant in the first half that the opposition didn't get out of their own half, we defended that well in their 22. Pressure in defence led to numerous turnovers, and Elliot and Nicky filling in at prop did a fantastic job in the scrum. The go forward, support and teamwork was a joy to watch. Olly and Riley H were at their rampaging best, clearing out the majority of rucks and Oliver John “Snakehips” cutting through their defence like butter.

Tries this week were a mix of dynamic straight running, but our passing game is improving with some impressive team tries.
We were 4 tries up at half time, but in truth, we could have had a few more. I think due to the sheer effort put in by every single player in the first half told on a heavy pitch, with Richmond upping their game a little and us taking our foot off the pedal too making it a more even second half.

It finished 5 tries to 1 with Riley G, Riley H, Jacob R, Olly and Jake B scoring. Jake’s try was a bit special after being asked for weeks to just back himself and when put in space by Elliot he finished it off superbly in the corner.
Bas had his best game of the season. He was more commanding around the breakdown, aggressive in defence, and his distribution massively improved. A typical 9 today who got into trouble with the ref for twisting, but we'll forgive him just for today.

Absolutely proud of these lads, game won in the first half and only one try conceeded.
Well done to Ben on making his debut, put in some great tackles and forward runs.
Big shout out to the travelling support, it really makes the lads feel a foot taller.
