This mirrored our previous game – two-well matched teams, lots of good rugby on show and played in the right spirit.
Two new Bishop players, William and Alfie made their debuts.
It’s evident that the coaching is paying off - closing-down, some excellent passes, and good tackling and hard scrum work across the field, but Redcar, starting with a quick-thinking try from a line-out slowly edged ahead to 17 points without reply.
However, this was never one way traffic. In between Redcar scoring, only a last-ditch Redcar tackle and an unlucky Bishop fumble on the try-line stopped us from registering. Previously, heads might have dropped, but we knew we had the measure of Redcar and kept going. Our efforts paid off in the second half with fine tries each by Cameron and William, and then Ollie’s conversion brought us back into the game and just reward for our efforts and plays.
This gave us a massive confidence boost, though sadly we ran out of time for a total comeback.
A little frustrating that we were within touching distance of our first win of the season. But…much to admire again from our lads, continuing to work hard to pull the scores back. Thanks also to Redcar for a fine game once again.
A bit more luck and time, the game might have been ours! We go again!
