After a long wait BARUFC finally had their first home game this weekend against Houghton!
Due to a numbers mismatch we loaned a few players to make up two teams each. It was a credit to our boys and girls that when we asked for volunteers every single one put up their hand. Well done to Matty and Ranulph who pulled on the Houghton colours and really got stuck in!
It was a great contest between two evenly matched groups and it was nice to see some skills developing. Passing was good, and often, before being tagged. Support play was superb, with coaches player of the week, James showing some fantastic skills running onto the ball at pace. This resulted in some fantastic team tries as well as some great individual efforts.
Defence was good too. Tagging was on point and we closed down space well with a consistent defensive line. It’s clear that the players are ready to move onto tackling now and some exciting times ahead with contact training allowed from November.
Well done to all the players involved, coaches and parents for their support and of course Houghton for providing some excellent opposition.
