The Braves arrived at Gateshead for a festival in their new kit kindly supplied by the Fighting Cocks (Durham), and you'd think that they'd spent Saturday night in there such was the slow start today.
We didn't play with our usual fire and commitment in the first few games, but we did get better as the morning went on.
With ball in hand, there was lots of 'Go Forward' and support, but we lacked some commitment and responsibility around the ruck and our tackling wasn't the best.
We were playing some big, strong and aggressive established sides today and we let them dominate around the set piece. But as the mist and hangovers lifted, we made steady improvement game on game.
We got better at protecting our own ball, recycling and attacking through the phases.
There were some strong forward runs from Molly and Scarlett, Molly nearly scoring a couple of times but being tackled into touch just before the try line.
Amelia and Lilian really took the game to our opposition, and Brodie was strong in ripping ball out of opponents hands.
Tori was strong in defence and attack covering lots of yards (and really brave when taking a knee to her face by her own player), and Mia was always there to support.
Adelaide’s confidence is growing and made some great forward runs. Isla stole the show today though putting in some great tackles in defence (against some very big opponents), and some fantastic dynamic forward runs.
As I was reffing one of the games I heard an opponent saying 'Jees, she's fiesty!' A fantastic performance and very worthy of our 'Brave of the Tournament'.
