The Bishop Auckland U10’s and their band of loyal supporters made the trip to the home of the Monkey Hangers in this alternative fixture to our schedule. This was a great opportunity to connect with another Club we seldom play that’s not too far away, and they were certainly excellent hosts and good challenging opponents.
Today we played as one team, of 9 per side as Rovers had fewer players than ourselves. This worked well with plenty of interchangeable substitutes. All our players showed great support and commitment as they were brought in and out of the action.
In defence we tackled well against the strong Rovers running game but at times we bunched up which created some opportunities to attack. However, the commitment and support for each player was very good. In the ruck we did well but just need to ensure that we’re quick to the breakdown to secure the ball. There were a couple of occasions where we were unable to secure the ball so something to work on in training.
In attack we showed good determination to get over the gain line. Our strong runners were difficult for Rovers to defend against. Some good individual and team tries were scored, but with a bit more heads up rugby looking for space and a good pass more scoring opportunities will come.
It was really good to see our players keep good discipline throughout the game. There were a couple of infringements and unfortunately some high tackles from our opponents, but the Bishop players kept their discipline which was really commendable.
This was another good performance against a very strong and determined team. Rovers set a good challenge for our team. It was really pleasing to see the hard work, teamwork and determination from all of our players. Well done team.
Players of the week.
Nathan Matyjasik. Nathan had a really good game today. His support play, game understanding and tackling has really improved. He’s got great pace and scored his first try in Bishop colours! Well played Nathan.
Joseph Barron. Joseph played very well today. His passing game was great as he kept his team going forward. He made some really strong runs and showed great teamwork, bravery, and determination all morning. Great work Joseph.
Harry Wigmore. Harry made some good runs with the ball and showed great support in attacking situations. He was in the thick of the defensive effort and never took a step backwards. Well played Harry.
Elliot Marr. Elliot grows in confidence each week as his game and experience continues to improve. He did some great work at the breakdown securing the ball for his team. Some good support play and hard work in defence topped off a great performance.
We are now approaching the end of what has been a fantastic season. There’s lots to keep working on in training so we look forward to seeing the players at 6:15pm on Wednesday and 10am Sunday.
Our next fixture is the U10 Festival that we are hosting on 06 April. This should be a great day for our Club and our fantastic U10 team. We have seven Clubs visiting. Fixtures for the day to follow shortly. Please save the date! Hopefully we can have the full squad available.
Thank you for your continued support.
